A new year means new restaurants in Washington DC! Warm up your sense of taste this January at one of these newly opened restaurants right here in the nation’s capital. While Washington.Org has come with a whole list of new restaurant openings for 2022, we picked a few that have opened up close to your RESA apartment!
dLeña – Located just a 15 minute walk away from your RESA apartment (or an even quicker drive) DLeña is Mexican cocina and mezcaleria that comes from Washingtonian Chef Richard Sandoval. dLeña is derived from the Spanish word “leña,” which means “firewood.” and as you may imagine, the restaurant features a wood-fired oven. Perfect for a winter evening, the wood-fired oven atmosphere serves as a nod to the rustic, open-fire cooking techniques of Mexico’s past. The menu offers signature smoked entrées, several types of ceviche and unique sharing plates. If you’re planning on grabbing a drink, the bar features hand-crafted margaritas, Latin cocktails, mezcal, cervezas and vino.

Qui Qui – Located less than ten minutes away from your RESA apartment, Qui Qui brings the flavors of Puetro Rico to Washington DC. The latest addition to Shaw’s restaurant scene comes from Ismael Mendez, who transformed a pop-up concept into a brick-and-mortar over the past year. Qui Qui offers masterfully prepared Puerto Rican cuisine, including staples such as mofongo de pollo, gandules guisado (stewed pigeon peas) and pastelón, a layered cheesy plantain dish that looks like lasagna. You can also sip on mojitos, daiquiris and pina coladas, or grab a drink beforehand at The Passenger downstairs.

Établi – Located in DC’s Bloomingdale neighborhood, less than ten minuts away from your RESA Apartment, établi (the French word for “established”) is the latest venture from seasoned restaurateurs Kathleen Davis and Thomas Boisvert. The eatery, which serves elegant Italian fare, encourages patrons to cultivate their palate with wines from around the globe. Davis and Boisvert are ardent believers in the adage, “De gustibus non est disputandum,” which translates to “In matters of taste, there can be no dispute.” There’s no disputing that établi makes for a perfect date night destination.
