One of our favorite parts of Washington, D.C. is despite it being a city full of shops, restaurants, monuments and more, it’s still remarkably green – and the perfect place to celebrate Earth Day without venturing too far from home. On Earth Day on April 22, you can do just that by checking out Washington, D.C. gardens.
These local gardens are full of everything from roses to fountains to greenery to wildflowers. Visit under the city sunshine for a taste of Earth Day and to get your fill of some of the most beautiful flowers in the area!
Smithsonian Pollinator Garden, located at 10 Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C. which is an 11 minute drive from your RESA apartment, is an 11,000-square-foot garden with tours, plantings and habitats showing the butterfly life cycle.
The Pollinator Garden along the east side of the National Museum of Natural History highlights the interdependency between plants and pollinators. The plants, grasses and trees in the garden are selected to provide nourishment and shelter to pollinator insects. Visitors to the garden can join Smithsonian Gardens on a pollination investigation to explore the who, what, when, where, why, and how of pollination.
Bartholdi Fountain and Gardens, located at 245 First St SW, Washington, D.C. which is worth every minute of its 11 minute drive from your RESA apartment, is a two-acre garden that showcases sustainable landscaping and design.
Bartholdi Gardens demonstrate a variety of sustainable features such as rain gardens, reuse of onsite materials, native plants and locally-sourced furniture. Part of the U.S. Botanic Garden campus since 1932, Bartholdi Fountain and Gardens also showcases innovative plant combinations in a variety of styles and design themes.
